The rapidly growing community of Williston, North Dakota is home to a new 250,000-square-foot community and recreation center located on the campus of Williston State College. The project includes six different swimming pools, including a 50-meter competition pool with a diving well and seating areas; a separate instruction pool and an indoor water park with lazy river and zero-entry splash pool.
Other fitness elements include cardio and strength areas on the upper level mezzanine, racquetball courts, four indoor tennis courts with high performance flooring and abundant natural light, locker rooms and a 13,000-square-foot indoor turf field. 150-foot joists span the open gymnasium that boasts four hardwood basketball courts ringed by an elevated 200 meter, six-lane performance running track.
Non-athletic elements include community center meeting and pre-function areas, child care with a play area, and new offices for the Williston Parks and Recreation Department. The building is primarily pre-cast concrete with the deliberate application of other efficient materials to maximize the client’s construction dollars. JE Dunn employed lean construction methods to weather the labor and material challenges common today in western North Dakota.
