The Awty International Early Learning Campus
The Early Learning Campus is the adaptive reuse of an existing 5.25-acre urban office park located along North Post Oak Road north of the Galleria in Houston into an all-inclusive learning and enrichment facility for 225 students in pre-K (ages three and four), kindergarten, and first grade for the Awty International School.  Focused on their students emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development the new campus provides 25 interactive classrooms, two multi-purpose rooms, art and music rooms, a gymnasium, learning kitchen, library, media room, dining facilities and support for students and faculty.

The three buildings that comprise the office park were taken down to their existing steel structure and brick facade providing the framework for the transformation. Sign bands were removed and the wood soffits were replaced with clear anodized aluminum panels to tie into the palette of the main campus. The brick facades and exterior identity are reimagined by a random pattern of 15’ high multicolor translucent resin panels that provide color, playfulness, and connect the classrooms and play areas, and relate to each of the 3 buildings individual interior color theme.  The Classrooms are situated to face the central “internal” play space and courtyard while the support spaces are placed towards the vehicular circulation routes providing a buffer to traffic and noise. The central play area or courtyard was constructed over the existing parking area providing more than 20,000 SF of outdoor play space with artificial grass turf covering contoured terrain, a tricycle path running under a footbridge, age specific playgrounds, a soccer field, basketball courts, outdoor classrooms, raised deck, and student gardens. The East and West buildings are connected by a vibrant tree-lined, European-style boulevard with benches and pavers. This protected play space provides a social and physical outdoor environment that supports Awty’s well-rounded curriculum and multicultural perspective.
